Working as a mural artist with an amazing company, Artworks, was one of the greatest experiences I have had as an artist. I was able to work alongside gifted lead artists and students. Working with a group of students who are handpicked and beyond talented was inspiring. The Cincinnati area gives so much to the youth in art opportunities, which then gives back to the community with their public artwork.
I worked with the Saturday Art program for 16 weeks, within this time 6 of those weeks held a class on Saturday from 8am-12pm. The students in my class were grades 3rd-5th.
The projects we focused on were cultural. The topic of our class was "Around The World In 6 Saturdays." Fall of 2014 created an adventure in my career as I got to become a real teacher for the first time.
Student teaching gave me the ability to use my past 3 years and apply them. I worked in both a high school (8 weeks) and a middle school (8 weeks). Here are a few works from both of my experiences, this includes student works as well as displays. I am lucky to have been able to work with OMA (opening minds through art) with Miami University for the greater part of last year. I am going to try my best to work with it again for another year in 2014 but it was a very moving experience and very educational. Although they are not young students, they are students and are in need of creativity. |
